10 Best Non Stick Frying Pans in Canada for 2021

There’s nothing quite as satisfying as a perfectly cooked egg sliding right out of the pan, or flipping a pancake seamlessly without an ounce of batter spilling out the sides – and that’s all thanks to only the best non-stick frying pans. Canada undoubtedly has a great range, perhaps even too much to sift through, which is why we’ve taken the liberty to test some of the most popular (and understated) models on the market.

That being said, there are others that are more than worth looking at, like the inexpensive JEETEE or convenient Gotham Steel cookware set.

Our choices of the best non-stick frying pans in Canada range in price as well, since we know not everyone is ready to fork out $90 on a single pan. Later on you’ll be able to read how we tested each one.

Dishwasher Safe: Yes

Induction Cooker: No

Available in a 2-pack and 3-pack, these pans from T-Fal keep things classic with their aluminum construction and ProGlide non-stick coating. Apart from proving popular with almost 9,000 positive reviews, what stood out for us is the fact that they’re non-stick on both the inside and outside. This makes clean-up much faster, since you don’t need to scrub or rinse the exterior before putting it in the dishwasher.

Well-distributed heat is achieved through Thermo-Spot technology – another highlight we found came in handy when waiting for things to heat up. In addition to spreading heat evenly, there’s a red indicator in the centre that lets you know when it’s been perfectly preheated.

Ergonomic handles make it more comfortable to lift in and out of the oven, plus they can take heat up to 350°F. For less than $100 we think this set is packed with value, since you’re getting three different sized pans, giving you more flexibility in the kitchen.

Features:

  • Specialty Non-Stick Interior & Exterior Coating
  • Thermo-Spot Technology Ensures Even Heat Distribution & Indicates Perfect Preheating
  • Comfortable & Oven Safe Ergonomic Handles

Popular FAQ: Do I have to use oil when cooking with these pans?

It is not necessary to use oil or butter to grease up these pans before cooking, thanks to the speciality non-stick coating which encourages foods to slide right off. You can certainly put some oil or butter for added flavour if you’d like, though.

2. Tramontina Professional Aluminum Non-Stick Restaurant Frying Pan

Dishwasher Safe: Yes

Induction Cooker: No

This pan from Tamontina has over 10,000 rave reviews online, and it isn’t hard to see why after trying it out. Made from 3004 aluminum, it’s been NSF certified to meet standards of cookware used in professional kitchens, which otherwise means it’s been built to withstand the rigours of cooking. This can also be seen with the heavy-gauge construction, featuring three beefy rivets to secure the handle.

Speaking of the handle, it’s stainless steel with a removable silicone grip – handy for cleaning and when moving it in and out of the oven. From sauteing to frying, or scrambling to searing, these pans are designed to spread heat evenly to cook a wide variety of foods.

Inside the satin exterior finish is the PFOA-free reinforced non-stick coating, which we found superior when removing even the stickiest of remains. When compared to something like the T-Fal Speciality Set it is a little pricey, but the high-quality construction and materials do account for the price.

Features:

  • Commercial-Grade Aluminum Build with PFOA-Free Advanced Non-Stick Technology
  • Removable Silicone Handle Enhances Comfort
  • Available in 8”, 10”, 12”, 14” & a 2-Pack

Popular FAQ: Does it have a flat base?

Yes, it does have a flat bottom, which means you’re able to easily cook with it on an electric stove since heat will be distributed evenly.

Dishwasher Safe: Yes

Induction Cooker: Yes

With more than 15,500 positive reviews online, we were pretty keen to see if it lived up to the hype. Spoiler alert: we approve. Available in multiple sizes and also in a 3-piece set, this Carote pan is lightweight, sleek, and user-friendly.

Made from granite stone, it’s got a PFOA-free non-stick coating engineered in Switzerland. We found that food release performs well, but we do recommend adding a touch of oil or butter before cooking to not only protect the coating, but also to add a bit of flavour.

The handle is comfortably shaped with stay-cool properties – something we found came in handy when putting it in the oven. Suitable for use on all stove surfaces, the base is flat and measures 5mm thick for even heat transfer throughout.

Features:

  • Natural Granite Stone with PFOA-Free Non-Stick Coating & Cast Aluminum Interior
  • Lightweight Build with Woodgrain Bakelite Stay-Cool Handle
  • Available in 8”, 9.5”, 11”, 12” & 3 Piece Set

Popular FAQ: Can the wooden handle go in the oven?

Yes, despite having a woodgrain effect this pan is able to go into the oven safely in temperatures up to 115°C. Avoid going above that threshold in order to preserve the lifespan of the handle.

4. Gourmex Toughpan Induction Frying Pan

Dishwasher Safe: Not Recommended

Induction Cooker: Yes

When we think of using the Gourmex Toughpan one thing in particular comes to mind: quality. It also reminds us of the OXO Good Grips and T-Fal Ultimate models, just for a slightly lower price. What mainly sets it apart from OXO and T-Fal is the fact that it can be used on all surfaces, even induction.

Built using heavy-gauge aluminum with a titanium-based non-stick coating inside, this pan is double the thickness when compared to most others on this list. That means the risk of burns is greatly reduced, and heat is distributed equally – two things we definitely noticed made cooking things like crepes or pancakes a lot simpler.

Just like the main section, the handle is thicker than what we’re used to, giving us an excellent grip for effortless flipping. As well as the 20cm version you can get a 24cm, 26cm and 32cm fry pan, 26cm crepe pan, and 28cm model specifically for grilling.

Features:

  • Heavy-Gauge Cast Aluminum Build with Tough Titanium PFOA-Free Non-Stick Coating
  • Double-Thick Construction for Seamless Heat Transfer
  • Grill & Crepe Pan Available Plus Regular Frying Model in 4 Sizes

Popular FAQ: What is the handle like?

This model has a solid heat-resistant handle with an ergonomic shape for better grip, as well as a hole in the end to hang for storage.

For those who are sick of mismatched cookware in their kitchen, this set from Gotham Steel has got you covered with ten pieces in total. Not only is it convenient if you’ve just moved into a new home, but it’s also a great set if you’re looking to upgrade your existing pot and pan collection.

Made from strong ti-cerama (a blend of titanium and ceramic), each pot and pan is ultra non-stick and free from PFOA and PTFE. As well as dishwasher safe, they’re also microwave safe, so you can warm up leftovers without transferring to a different bowl.

Made from heavy-duty stainless steel, this KitchenAid pan ticks all the boxes for us when it comes to durability. It’s built with a triple-layered base, meaning it may take a little longer to heat up, but will conduct heat like a dream.

You can choose from a 9.5” or 12” size, with a 7.68” and 7.72” handle respectively. Something else to note about the handle is its ergonomic shape, making it more comfortable to hold while flipping food or transferring the pan across surfaces.

In terms of non-stick abilities, it’s suitable for everything from eggs to crumbed fish, helping everything stay intact. With a PFOA-free coating, it’s not only hard-wearing, but also a breeze to clean since it’s dishwasher safe.

  • Heavy-Duty Triple-Layer Base with Durable Stainless Steel Build
  • Seamless PFOA-Free Non-Stick Coating
  • 5” & 12” Sizes Available

7. OXO Good Grips Non-Stick Frypan

OXO Good Grips Non-Stick Frypan

Dishwasher Safe: Yes

Induction Cooker: No

For those who love the durability of aluminum pans, but would enjoy something more lightweight, this model from OXO is a solid choice. We personally loved it for that exact reason – it’s constructed with hard-anodized aluminum with 3 layers of the non-stick coating, yet it doesn’t feel as heavy you’d think.

This made it easier to navigate around the stovetop, flipping food, pouring sauces, and moving it in and out from the oven. Another aspect that stands out to us is the unique rolled edge, which ensures drip-free pouring (less cleanup is always a bonus).

Comfortable stay-cool handles gave us a secure grip, and angled side walls helped with evaporating liquids faster. We also can’t forget about the rounded base, which makes stirring more efficient. Oven safe up to 220°C, the non-stick coating is PFOA-free and triple layered.

Features:

  • German-Engineered 3-Layer PFOA-Free Non-Stick Coating
  • Lightweight Yet Robust Scratch-Resistant Anodized Aluminum Build
  • Unique Rolled Edges for Easy Pouring & Rounded Bottoms for Efficient Stirring

Popular FAQ: Does it come with a lid?

This particular model does not appear to come with a lid, however this brand does sell lids separately. These lids are made from tempered glass which is durable and lets you view the food without lifting it off. What’s more, their lids are interchangeable, so you can use the same ones across pots and pans of the same size.

8. T-Fal E91898 Ultimate Non-Stick Fry Pan

T-Fal E91898 Ultimate Non-Stick Fry Pan

Dishwasher Safe: Yes

Induction Cooker: No

While the other T-Fal model on our list came in sets of two and three, this is a single pan made from anodized aluminum. Compared to the other T-Fal set it ranks slightly higher on the ladder in terms of quality (although the other pans are still excellent quality ), this is more of a standalone pan.

While both models feature the same thermo-spot indicator for effortless preheating, the Ultimate model has a riveted silicone handle that withstands temps up to 200°C, compared to the Specialty model which isn’t silicone and withstands up to 175°C.

The non-stick properties made from reinforced titanium mean this model performed extremely well no matter what it was hit with. Frying, browning, simmering, sauteing – it didn’t let us down and released foods like a dream.

Features:

  • Heavy-Duty Hard Anodized Aluminum Construction Spreads Heat Evenly
  • Titanium Reinforced Non-Stick Coating with Preheating Thermo-Spot Indicator
  • Comfy Riveted Silicone Handles Withstand 200°C Heat

Popular FAQ: How deep are the sides?

From the base to the top of the sides this model measures around 2”, making it ideal for everything from fried eggs to a whole dish with meat and vegetables. We didn’t find it difficult to fit a decent amount of food inside, whilst maintaining an even cook all around.

9. JEETEE Granite Stone Non-Stick Frying Pan

JEETEE Granite Stone Non-Stick Frying Pan

Dishwasher Safe: Not Indicated – Best Washed By Hand

Induction Cooker: Yes

One for the budget-conscious shoppers, this granite stone pan from JEETEE pleasantly surprised us when it came to versatility and cleanliness. Built using natural medical granite stone, the inner aluminum alloy and diamond powder non-stick coating are scratch-resistant and designed to withstand rigorous cooking.

The brand breaks down each layer for you, boasting five non-stick coatings in total. Basically, it’s a very sturdy piece of cookware, with notably even heat transfer no matter what surface it’s used on. We found the handle to be a wonderful highlight feature, as it’s a high-quality bakelite smooth wooden handle that is slip-resistant and feels comfortable to hold.

Back to the cleanliness, this is definitely one of the easiest we’ve cleaned. Even dried sauce wiped right out using warm water and a soft cloth. This also means that food release scored highly here, even without any oil.

Features:

  • PFOA-Free 5-Layer Non-Stick Scratch-Resistant Coating
  • Available in 8.5”, 9.5”, 10”, 11” & 3-Piece Set
  • Ergonomic & Slip-Resistant Bakelite Wooden Handle

Popular FAQ: How many surfaces can I use this pan on?

This model is one of the most versatile on our list, as it can be used on induction, gas, infrared, electric, and ceramic glass surfaces. It is worth noting, though, that it is not safe for the oven.

10. KUTIME Copper Non-Stick Frying Pan

KUTIME Copper Non-Stick Frying Pan

Check Prices Here

Dishwasher Safe: No

Induction Cooker: Yes

What stands out about this KUTIME pan to us is the copper construction, which in our experience heats up faster since it’s an excellent thermal conductor. Not only that, but copper is also known to distribute heat very well, making the cooking experience easier on the whole.

This model also makes it on our list because of value – for $29.99 you’re getting a pan as well as a glass lid, something you’ll often have to buy additionally. We also quite enjoy the bright copper colour, which doesn’t blend in with a lot of the stainless steel cookware we have.

Food release rates highly here with a smooth ceramic non-stick coating, which you need to clean with a soft cloth to lengthen its lifespan. Underneath you’ll find a triple-layered fast-heating base with a high temperature resistance up to 450°C.

Features:

  • PTFE/PFOA/Lead/Cadmium Free Ceramic Non-Stick Coating
  • Tri-Layer Base & Copper Build for Fast Heating & Even Transfer
  • Glass Tempered Lid Included

Popular FAQ: Which sizes can I get it in?

This particular model from KUTIME comes in a single 9.5” size, but there is also a 10 piece set available which consists of two frying pans, two stockpots, and two milk pans.

Our Testing Criteria

How did we go about testing all these pans? Each one had to pass a set of strict criteria to make it on our list. After all, it isn’t just about how well each one can release a fried egg.

Heat Distribution

We found pancakes to be the best test for heat distribution, as you can clearly see uneven spots on the surface of the pancake. To give each pan a fair go, we tested three pancakes in total on each one.

  • First we began by measuring the levelness of our stove to ensure a flat surface.
  • Then we preheated each pan for around three minutes.
  • Before pouring the batter, we placed a thin layer of butter before cooking, as this is recommended by each brand in order to protect the non-stick coating overtime.
  • Cooking lasted two minutes per side of the pancake.

Once removed, we took note of any uneven areas, like undercooked edges or overcooked centres. The pans with the most evenly cooked pancakes made it on the list.

Food Release Abilities

Even though each brand recommends using a small amount of oil or butter before cooking each time, we decided to test each one with and without oiling first. We decided to cook eggs for this test since they’re the best way to rank performance in terms of food release. Just like the pancakes, we used three eggs for each pan.

  • Preheating took around three minutes each.
  • After letting the eggs cook for five minutes, we attempted to let them slide right onto the plate without using any utensils.

Only the pans that let each egg slide off without help made it onto our list. Other models left egg residue behind, or the underside of the egg completely came off.

Scratching

It isn’t recommended to use any type of metal utensil or scouring pad on non-stick models, but we did a short test to see if any of them couldn’t even handle a few swipes.

  • To test durability during cooking, we took a metal spatula and pulled it across the surface 15 times, ensuring to move in back-and-forth motions like you might do while mixing something.
  • Then we tested using metal while cleaning. We took a scouring pad and scraped it across 10 times (less than the spatula since scouring pads are much coarser).
  • Testing their durability against steel pans is also important, as many people store their cookware on top of each other. For this, we took a steel pot, put its base on top of the interior of the pans, and dragged them from edge to edge.

The models that ended up on our list had very little to no damage left after these tests.

Cleanliness

This section involved two tests: how easy they are to clean, and how much spillage occurs.

The first was the ease-of-cleaning test, where we also cooked eggs.

  • We preheated the pans as normal (three minutes) and left each surface dry (without oil or butter).
  • Each egg was placed and left until it burned.
  • After taking out the burnt eggs and letting the pan cool down, we used a soft sponge (as recommended by manufacturers), warm water and a small amount of dishwashing liquid to clean them by hand for one minute.

The ones on our list cleaned like a dream, some taking a little bit more elbow grease, but in the end nowhere near as difficult as stainless steel alternatives.

For the leakage test, we used pumpkin seeds.

  • We preheated the pans as normal (three minutes) and left each surface dry (without oil or butter).
  • A handful of pumpkin seeds were placed inside.
  • We rotated the pan in a circular motion, back and forth and side to side, to see if any seeds fell out.

None of the models on our list experienced spillage.

How to Take Care of a Non-Stick Frying Pan

It’s always worth checking the instructions left by the manufacturer to understand how to care for the model you choose, although there are some general rules you can follow to lengthen its lifespan as much as possible.

  • Never add cold water as soon as it comes off the stove. This can lead to thermal shock or warping, which will both cause damage and shorten its lifespan significantly.
  • Before using it right out of the box, give it a wash by hand with warm soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge. This removes any residue that could be on top.
  • Stay away from metal utensils and instead stick to silicone or wood ones.
  • Use low and medium heat settings wherever possible, as constant bouts of extreme heat can begin to remove the non-stick properties.
  • While some are safe for dishwashers, we suggest sticking with handwashing in order to preserve the non-stick coating.

Conclusion on the best non stick frying pans Canada

No matter what model you end up choosing, you can rest easy knowing each one on our list went through some rigorous and careful testing. All in all, we’re proud of all the models on the list, but the Gourmex Toughpan is our choice for the best non-stick frying pan in Canada. It ranked the best in all of our tests, feels super comfortable to work with, and is highly versatile since it can be used on all surfaces.
